If you received a suspicious letter or package, would you know what to do?

June 17, 2014

The Santa Fe College Police Department would like to remind everyone what they should do in case a suspicious package arrives at your door.

Some indicators of a suspicious include strange odors, protruding wires, excessive postage, no return address, incorrect title with name on address line, lopsided with excessive string or tape, and possibly mailed from a foreign country.

If you receive a suspicious package:

1. Avoid handling it and do not shake or bump.

2. Isolate the package and look for indicators.

3. Do not open, smell or taste.

4. Treat is as suspect and call 911.

If you suspect the letter or package contains a bomb, radiological, biological or chemical threat, isolate the area, call 911, and wash your hands with soap and water.
