SF VOLLEYBALL

Gainesville, FL – Head Volleyball Coach Nick Cheronis has completed his assistant coaching staff for 2014 with the addition of Nickie Halbert.  She comes to the Saints from the prestigious St. Louis High Performance Volleyball Club.  HP-St. Louis is one of the top volleyball programs in the nation.

"I can't wait to get Nickie here to start working with our setters," said Cheronis.  "Her playing experience at the Division I level will immediately give our players a sense of competing at that level. I had the pleasure of coaching Nickie with the Florida Region HP program in Pula, Croatia and her leadership was a big key to us having a successful trip."

Halbert's playing background will immediately be an asset to the Santa Fe setters. A graduate of Elon University, she was the starting setter for the Phoenix, leading them to the 2011 Southern Conference North Division championship. As a high school standout, Halbert was a three time All-State setter at Venice High School in Venice, Florida. In 2004, she led her team to a Class 5A state runner-up finish and in 2005 was a first team All-State selection while leading her team to the state championship.

"I am so grateful for all of the doors that volleyball has opened for me," said Halbert.   "Coaching at the collegiate level is a dream come true, and I am excited for the opportunity to be on the ground floor of building a strong program. Having played for Coach Cheronis myself, I know what an outstanding coach he is, and I am extremely lucky to be able to learn from someone like him in my first year. I am so proud to be a part of the Santa Fe family."

The Saints will open their inaugural season on August 26 against Pasco-Hernando State College at 7:00 PM in the Santa Fe Gym.
