SF participates in SENSE survey this fall

June 10, 2014

This fall, Santa Fe College will participate in a national survey focused on institutional practices and student behaviors in the earliest weeks of college.  As research shows, understanding students' earliest experiences can help us enhance student learning, retention and success.

The Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE) is an initiative of the Center for Community College Student Engagement in the Program in Higher Education Leadership at The University of Texas at Austin. The survey results are of great value to help SF ensure our students successfully navigate their college experience because students' classroom and campus experiences in the first month of college often point to the likelihood of long-term academic success.   Participating in the survey will allow us to learn about students' first impressions, classroom experiences, and initial interactions as they are introduced to college. By examining these students' attitudes and behaviors, we can determine whether the efforts to enhance the learning environment we are undertaking as part of our SACS Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) are having the desired effect.

The survey will be administered during the fourth and fifth class weeks of the fall academic term in classes randomly selected by the Center to ensure a representative sample and to preserve the integrity of the survey results.   Instructors whose classes are selected for survey administration will receive specific information from Dr. Lisa Armour, Vice President for Assessment, Research and Technology.

Santa Fe College is a recognized leader in student achievement and completion. By participating in this important survey, we continue and strengthen our commitment to excellence by developing a better understanding of our students and how to serve them.
