Congrats to Jean Hutton, Nursing Award Winner
May 15, 2014
Jean A. Hutton, professor in the nursing programs, received the Lucille Stewart Beeson Nursing Award from Samford University where she is a doctorate student in the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing.
This award is given to a first year graduate student in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. Recipients are in the top 5 percent of their class and demonstrate outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence, and professional achievement. Hutton received a $1,000 scholarship.
Throughout the first year of her doctorate coursework, Hutton has maintained a 4.0 GPA. She has developed many innovative learning simulations for nursing students including one of the first simulations for operating room nurses. She also assisted with the development of a first of its kind clinical remediation program for which she published an article in the journal Teaching and Learning in Nursing.
Recently, Hutton co-authored the initial nurse practitioner case study for a new interactive computerized nursing education product for Shadow Health, Inc. The education product involves a virtual patient which students verbally interact with in order to practice skills in taking health histories and performing physical assessments. The product is now used by 230 nursing schools throughout the country by 15,000 to 20,000 students. Her doctoral studies focus on nursing administration and education.
Congrats, Jean, on your accomplishment!
