Pensacola, FL – The Santa Fe Saints fought all the way to the end, but the Central Florida Patriots came out on the winning end of their Atlantic District winner's bracket game with a run in the bottom of the eleventh inning. The Saints are still in it and will face the winner of Indian River State College and Lake Sumter State College for another shot at Central Florida.
The Patriots struck first, scoring two in the bottom of the first on two hits and a SF error.
Santa Fe (36-22) answered in the top of the second with two runs on an Erin Marsh fielder's choice and a Caroline Whittington ground out to make it 2-2.
In the top of the fifth Rachel Hoeft gave the Saints their first lead of the game with a deep two run homerun to centerfield.
CF (42-12) cut the margin to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth but the Saints bounced right back with three runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by a Caroline Whittington two run double.
The Patriots wouldn't go away and scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 7-6.
Central Florida was down to their final at bat in the seventh and were able to extend the game with a homerun on the first pitch, tying things up at 7-7.
Both teams threatened to score numerous times in extra innings, but it wasn't until the eleventh inning that Central Florida finally broke through. They put runners on the corners and with two outs a hot shot to third base was enough to bring home the winning run.
Geena Capitini, Celeste Bradshaw and Beri Scott had two hits apiece for Santa Fe, and Caroline Whittington was 1-for-4 with a double and a career high three RBI.
The game tonight against Lake Sumter or Indian River will be broadcast live on www.psblive.com at approximately 9:30 PM CST
