Santa Fe College spring graduation is the first of its kind
May 1, 2014
Spring commencement at Santa Fe College includes two major "firsts" in SF history. The first RN to BSN graduating class will walk across the stage Friday, and the first All-USA team member from SF will graduate with highest honors.
Nineteen nursing students will be conferred with a Bachelor of Science in nursing at the 3 p.m. Health Sciences graduation ceremony, and will also attend a special nurses pinning ceremony at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 1 in the SF gym.
The seven-week semesters in the nursing bachelor's program require a high level of commitment and motivation. These graduates-who are all working RNs-met the demands with professionalism and a deep sense of responsibility to the future patients they will serve.
Also attending the pinning ceremony and the health sciences graduation ceremony are 152 other nursing graduates of the LPN, ASN and ASN bridge programs.
At the 7 p.m. general graduation ceremony, Christian Keen will graduate with highest honors for his 4.0 GPA, and the distinction of being the first SF student in its history to be named a Phi Theta Kappa All-USA tem member, representing the top 0.0002 percent of community college students in the country.
For those that cannot attend, the ceremony will be streamed live and can be viewed form any device.
In addition to the main commencement ceremonies, SF's EMS program will hold a separate ceremony for EMT and paramedic graduates at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2 in the Kirkpatrick Center lecture hall, 3737 N.E. 39th Ave., Gainesville. The Zoo Animal Technology program will hold its graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2 in the Fine Arts Hall on the Northwest Campus.
