Saints Fall to Daytona, 6-4

March 16, 2014

The Santa Fe Saints entered Saturday's matinee against Daytona State riding a three game win streak but saw it come to an end at the hands of Daytona State College, 6-4.  Defense was again the Achilles heel for SF (14-10, 4-3 MFC) as they committed three errors leading to a Falcons run.

The Saints fell behind 2-0 after four and a half innings but tied the score in the bottom of the fifth on a Casey Scoggins RBI single and a wild throw by the Falcons pitcher.

Daytona answered with two in the sixth to make it 4-2 and the Saints trimmed it to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth on a Payson Smith RBI double.

DSC put two insurance runs on the boar in the ninth and SF managed just one run in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Jonathan Camp finished 3-for-5 with a RBI, Scoggins was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI, and Roger Gonzalez was 2-for-3.

The Saints will head to Daytona on Monday, Mar. 17 looking for revenge against the Falcons.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
