SF's Volleyball program recruits first official team member

St. Francis High School volleyball player Ann Lorrayne Bzoch signed yesterday as the first official player on the Santa Fe College Athletics new volleyball team. The season is set to begin this fall.

"It is a such a blessing," Bzoch said at the signing. "It is an honor. I can't believe this is all happening. It is really surreal to me to be able to play in front of my friends and family. It really means a lot."

The 5'7″ libero-the rearmost, roaming defensive player-will be reunited with her high school coach Nick Cheronis, who had three successful season as head volleyball coach at St. Francis before becoming SF's first women's volleyball coach.

"He [Cheronis] is such a great coach," Bzoch said. "He brings more than just a volleyball coach. He is such a good person."

While playing for the St. Francis Wolves, Bzoch had 623 receptions (96% receive) with 481 digs, 77 assists and 30 aces. The Wolves played for the state 3A title her junior season and reached the final four for second straight season in 2013.

Prior to signing with SF, Bzoch considered walking on at Miami. Other possibilities included UF, Notre Dame, Emory and Tampa.

"I really feel that the future is bright for this program and am really excited about it," Bzoch added. "I just felt happy here. The opportunities are just endless."
