Gainesville, FL – Three Santa Fe College baseball players made their declaration and signed with a four year school last week, including 2013 Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year Casey Scoggins.  Sophomore Derek Vail and freshman Brady Price were the other signees.  All three will compete for the Saints in the spring of 2014 and begin at their new institutions in the fall of 2014.

"I am real excited for these three guys to be getting these great opportunities at some quality baseball programs," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs.  "This is hopefully what our program represents; helping young men get better in their time here and propelling them to the next level."

Scoggins inked his letter of intent with NCAA Division II power the University of Tampa where he will join former Saints and 2012 UT signee Jacob Tillotson.  The Spartans won the NCAA II National Championship in 2013 and Coach Joe Urso earned his third National Coach of the Year award.  Tampa also won National Titles in 2006 and 2007.

Scoggins led the Mid-Florida Conference in batting average (.390), runs scored (51), and stolen bases (16).  He also had five doubles, a .490 on base percentage and drove in 21 runs from the leadoff spot.

Sophomore pitcher Derek Vail signed with Clemson University, a NCAA Division I institution located in Clemson, South Carolina.  Vail will be joining former Saint Shane Kennedy who led the Tigers in hitting in 2013.  Clemson finished the 2013 season 40-22 overall and 18-12 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

As a freshman, Vail was the top pitcher out of the bullpen for Coach Johnny Wiggs, tossing 46.1 innings pitched.  He finished with a 5-5 record, 3.11 ERA and 24 strikeouts.

Freshman pitcher Brady Price has signed to play with the University of North Florida in 2014.  The right hander sat out last season at SF with an injury but is ready to suit up and take the hill this spring for the Saints.

The Ospreys of UNF compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference at the NCAA Division level and finished the 2013 season with a 40-19 overall record and 18-9 in conference play.
