Dr. Singhal Presents "Finding 'Positive Deviants' in Asia" Nov. 21

November 21, 2013

On Thursday, Nov. 21, Santa Fe's Title VI grant, "Opening Doors to Asia" will present a talk by Dr. Arvind Singhal, with the provocative title "Finding 'Positive Deviants' in Asia: Ordinary People with Extraordinary Solutions."

When two-thirds of all children under the age of five in Vietnam suffered from malnutrition, experts identified families with well-nourished children and discovered what made these "positive deviants" successful.

Dr. Singhal's lecture will discuss how positive deviance (PD) is an approach to social change that enables communities to discover the traditional wisdom they already have, and how such wisdom is being implemented successfully in Asia.

Dr. Singhal is the co-author or editor of 12 books, including Health Communication in the 21st Century; Organizing for Social Change; Combating AIDS: Communication Strategies in Action; and he has served as an advisor to the World Bank, the United Nations, U.S.A.I.D. and many others.

The talk will be at 5:00 p.m. in WA-104, and all are invited.
