Tampa, FL – Playing in front of over 20 friends and family in his hometown of Tampa, former Chamberlain High School star Reggie Hart made his presence felt on Monday evening as he led the FCSAA #5 Santa Fe Saints (6-0) past Hillsborough CC 75-74 in buzzer beating fashion.
Hart first created the opportunity for his game winner on the defensive end. With the Saints unblemished record on the line and just 40 seconds remaining, they needed a stop and the ball back for a chance to win. Hart took it upon himself and locked down the Hawk dribbler, forcing a five second call by the referee with 8.9 seconds left, giving Santa Fe the ball and some hope.
Saints freshman point guard Tre' Ford dribbled the ball down the court and attacked the right side, kicking it out to Hart who drove the baseline and lifted a floater in the air from six feet. The ball bounced around on the rim as the buzzer sounded and then fell through the net, sending the Saints bench and fans in attendance into a frenzy.
"It was a back and forth game where neither team could stop the other there for a while," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We had a two point lead at the half but couldn't ever pull away. Reggie really did a nice job on both ends of the court those final couple possessions. We decided not to foul and to just play for a stop and he stepped up against their best player and forced a turnover."
The Saints shot a blistering 56% from the field and were 44% from behind the three point line. The quality shooting didn't stop there as SF set a school record by going 13-for-13 from the foul line, the most makes in a single game without a miss.
Chad Milliken led the Saints offensively, scoring 21 points, 19 of which came in the first half. Hart finished with 12 points and five assists, Salim Gloyd had nine points and Shea Jones and Jonathan hood had eight each. Nine players in all scored for Santa Fe.
"Our guys showed great resolve tonight," said Mowry. "I was very pleased with the effort and composure. It was an exciting game to be a part of."
The Saints will travel to Jacksonville on Friday to take on Georgia Highlands College at 6:00 PM at Florida State College@Jacksonville. They continue in Jacksonville on Saturday against Miami Dade College at 2:00 PM.
