Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore guard Jonathan Hood scored a season high 25 points on Friday night against Palm Beach State College to lead the Saints past the Panthers 69-59. The win moves SF to 5-0 and Palm Beach drops to 4-2.
After a slow start, the Saints turned it on over the final eight minutes of the first half, outscoring PB 19-6 to take a 36-31 lead into the locker room.
"I was pleased with how our team reacted when they got down," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "They didn't hang their heads or get upset, they got some stops, worked hard, took good shots and worked their way back in the game."
Hood opened the scoring the Saints in the second half, connecting on a three pointer to make the lead 39-31. Palm Beach kept it to a single digit lead until two free throws by Reggie Hart with 8:08 remaining gave Santa Fe their first double digit lead of the game 50-40.
SF led by as many as 18 late in the contest and a flurry of points over the final minute by the Panthers made it a 10 point win for the Saints.
Takija Knight was the only other player for Santa Fe in double figures with 12. He also pulled down four rebounds, blocked three shots and had two steals. Shea Jones had eight points, five rebounds and four assists and Andre Horne had six points and three blocks.
"Our guys were unselfish tonight and really shared the ball," said Mowry. "This was a complete team win from top to bottom."
SF will look to stay undefeated when they travel to Tampa on Monday, November 21 for a game against Hillsborough CC at 7:00 PM.
