By a narrow margin Friday, Santa Fe College Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Dan Rodkin was elected president of the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC). The election - the closest in AFC history - was held at AFC's annual convention in Orlando, which took place Nov. 13-15.

AFC is the professional association of Florida's 28 public colleges in the Florida College System. AFC's role is to promote, represent and support these colleges and their boards, employees, retirees and associates.

Rodkin's platform focused on serving every AFC member, regardless of an individual's job on campus or within the Florida College System.

"No matter your role within the Florida College System – no matter what hat you wear – AFC should work for you, providing resources and services as we advance the mission of our colleges." Rodkin said. "I look forward to working with you, and I appreciate your support."

Rodkin has been a member of AFC for 14 years, and has held leadership roles in his chapter and within the student development commission. He is also president of the Florida College System Activities Association, is on the board of NASPA-FL and was a member of Leadership Gainesville 39.

Prior to becoming the AVP of Student Affairs, Rodkin served as director of Student Life at Santa Fe College for five years. He earned a master's degree in education from the University of South Carolina and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Florida. Rodkin is committee chair for Cub Scout Pack 124 (Archer, Fla.) and is on the board of governors for the Alpha Eta chapter of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.
