SF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Marianna, FL – The FCSAA #9 Santa Fe Saints (2-1) hung tough with #3 Northwest Florida State College (3-0) for most of the game on Friday afternoon on Marianna at Chipola College, but a late run by the Raiders was the difference in an 86-71 loss for SF.
Playing without starting forward Jocelyn Mousty, the Saints matched bucket for bucket with the perennial state powers and with eight minutes to go the score was knotted up at 59-59. From there it was all Raiders however as they ran off 13 straight points to pull away. Santa Fe managed only 10 points over the final eight minutes of the contest.
"We played well for 32 minutes but it takes all 40 to win a game, especially against a team of this caliber," said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins. "We were better on defense this game, but still have a lot to improve on."
Tori Baggett led the Saints with 20 points, Jaquasha Sesler had a double double with 12 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals, Stephanie Ball scored 12, and Tatiana Manuel had eight points and pulled down eight rebounds.
"I was proud of how well we did on the glass," said Stebbins. "Tatiana, Areana [Davis] and Jaquasha really did a nice job boxing out and limiting second chance opportunities."
The Saints play again on Saturday in Marianna against Tallahassee CC at 12:00 PM.
