Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore forward Takija Knight scored 12 points off the bench to lead the Saints to a comfortable 83-65 over visiting Impact Academy Sunday afternoon in the final day of the SF Tip-off Classic.
Twelve players saw action for Santa Fe with 11 of them playing 13 minutes or more. Eleven players scored at least two points and four were in double figures.
"This was a good win for our team," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We were balanced on offense and picked up the defensive intensity in the second half. They presented a problem for us initially with their guard heavy lineup but we adjusted and did a much better job over the last 20 minutes."
Impact controlled the early portion of the game and took a 7-0 lead before SF settled in and outscored them 21-8 over an eight minute stretch to take a 21-15 lead.
The Saints maintained a slim lead the rest of the half and took an eight point advantage into halftime.
The second half was all Santa Fe as the built as much as a 23 point lead late in the game in route to an 83-65 victory. Despite the win, Coach Mowry insists that there is a lot for the team to work on.
"We need to shoot better from the free throw line, 56.5% just isn't going to put us in a good position most games," said Mowry. "We also turned it over too much. As our guys continue to get experience at this level, these kinds of things will improve."
Knight finished the game with 12 points and six rebounds, Chad Milliken had 11 and Jordan Banks and Salim Gloyd had 10 each.
The Saints take to the road next weekend to face Faulkner State in Tallahassee on November 8 at 6:00 PM.
