SF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Gainesville, FL – Sophomore guard Tori Baggett led a balanced scoring attack as the FCSAA #8 Santa Fe Saints scored a season opening victory over East Georgia State College 76-58.  Three other SF players scored in double figures, including 14 from Jocelyn Mousty and 11 each from Ifti Dunne and Stephanie Ball.

"I was very happy with our scoring distribution tonight," said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins.  "We spread the ball out and played very unselfishly."

The Saints (1-0) jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and held the Bobcats (0-1) scoreless for the first six minutes of the game.  East Georgia came roaring back however and tied the score at 14-14 with a 14-4 run.  Santa Fe answered with a run of their own, punctuated by a three pointer from Baggett to push the lead back to double digits at 29-18 with 3:45 left in the first half.  SF led at the half time break by the same margin, 36-25.

The Bobcats hung around for the first six minutes of the second half, cutting the lead to as few as six, but the Saints used a 19-7 run over a six minute stretch to expand their lead to 74-54 lead with three minutes to play and closed out the last three minutes for a 76-58 win

The Saints dished out 24 assists, collected nine steals and outrebounded the Bobcats 48-42.  Mousty came up one rebound shy of a double double, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Santa Fe starting guards Stephanie Ball and Ifti Dunne combined for 10 assists.

"This was a nice effort offensively, but defensively we have to tighten up a little bit," said Stebbins.  "We gave up the middle far too often and didn't step in to take some charges when the opportunities were there.  The effort was there, but the execution was not.  We will keep working hard and hopefully can make some strides against a tough Miami Dade team in a couple days."

The Saints are back on the court on Sunday, November 3 at 12:00 PM against the Sharks of Miami Dade College.
