Education for All: The Dream Act and Higher Education in Florida
Tuesday, Oct. 22 beginning at 2 p.m. in S-29
Each year approximately 65,000 undocumented youth graduate from U.S. high schools and are unable to pursue a higher level education because they arrived in this country as the children of undocumented workers. Many of these young people have been raised in the United States and completed all or significant parts of their education here but now risk deportation if they continue with their studies. In Florida, even U.S. citizens who have graduated from Florida high schools are denied in-state tuition if their parents are undocumented workers. Please join us to learn more about the reforms that have been introduced at both the state and federal level to address these issues. Hear from a panel of Santa Fe students who will share their personal histories and explain the challenges they have faced in trying to secure higher level education in Florida.
