'Trashy' Students Needed for Waste Audit Day on Oct.15

October 8, 2013

Interested in helping Santa Fe College understand what we could better reduce, reuse and recycle in an effort to minimize what we throw away each day? The Office of Civic Engagement is looking for students willing to lend a hand at Waste Audit Day 2013. Volunteers will help sort a sampling of trash on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., in Parking Lot 7 (north of D Building).  The event will be guided by Alachua County Waste Alternatives.

As part of Waste Audit Day 2013, the RePurpose project will be hosting an art exhibition, which will feature art pieces made out of repurposed material. Participants are encouraged to submit creative works of art from repurposed materials pulled from the trash at the Waste Audit Day to the Art Exhibit from Oct. 28-Nov. 1.

Volunteers who help sort trash for at least two hours will be invited to attend a volunteer reception on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 3-5 p.m., where the results from the audit will be shared.  After reviewing the audit, the reception will move into the Santa Fe Gallery to look at the art exhibition.  The art exhibition is free and open to the public and Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be provided by the Santa Fe Gallery.
