Martha Kanter to Speak at Fall Convocation Aug. 20

August 14, 2013

President Jackson Sasser will lay out his vision for the 2013-2014 academic year at Santa Fe College at Fall Convocation on Tuesday, Aug. 20. This is a school-wide meeting of faculty and professional staff at which Sasser discusses new initiatives and gives an update on the state of the college before students return to campus on Aug. 21.

In addition to remarks by Sasser, Convocation will feature special guest Dr. Martha Kanter, the Undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Education. Kanter is a national leader and friend to Santa Fe College who is just a few steps from the President of the United States when it comes to American education.  Kanter is the first Undersecretary to come from a community college, a former League for Innovation President, and most importantly the most student-oriented national leader in higher education today.

"Without question, we have the most distinguished speaker ever in the history of our college," Sasser said. "In addition, we have significant changes occurring in Florida higher education that I will speak about in my state-of-the-college address."

Convocation begins with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the SF Fine Arts Hall lobby, 3000 NW 83 St. The program begins at 9 a.m. and is anticipated to last about 90 minutes.
