SF FASTPITCH

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #5 Santa Fe Saints (39-16) took four hours and part of two days to dispatch of the Indian River Pioneers, but did so in exciting fashion, pulling out a 5-4 win on a Celeste Bradshaw 11 inning homerun.  The Saints bashed four homeruns in the game, including two from Bradshaw.

Indian River staked themselves to an early lead on Saturday evening, scoring three in the second inning.  Karla Claudio cut the deficit to 3-1 in the fourth with a shot over the left field fence and one inning later Bradshaw knotted the score at 3-3 with a deep homerun to left field.

The Pioneers answered, plating on in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead 4-3.  Megan McDonald followed Claudio and Bradshaw's lead, belting a homer to left center to tie the score once again at 4-4.

Amber Maxey pitched the Saints out of jams for the next two innings before the umpires decided that the rain was too much and called the game until 10:00 Am on Saturday.

On Saturday morning Galis Lozada led off for SF with a runner on first and one out.  She lined one to the IRSC shortstop who made a diving catch and doubled off the runner at first, ending the threat.

Karla Claudio held the Pioneers in check for the next two innings, setting up the heroics of Bradshaw.  With two outs in the top of the 11, Bradshaw hit a two strike pitch over the left field fence to give Santa Fe their first lead of the game.

Claudio shut the door in the bottom of the 11, securing the victory for the Saints.

Bradhsaw finished the game 2-for-5 with two homeruns and three RBI, Claudio was 1-for-4 with a homerun and Megan McDonald was 2-for-4 with a homerun.

SF plays Miami Dade at 2:00 PM CST in winner's bracket action.  All games on Saturday and Sunday can be seen on www.psblive.com.
