SF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Gainesville, FL – Redshirt freshman Monique Bunk and sophomore Lonna Turner signed their letters of intent this week, Bunk with Morehead State University and Turner with Augusta State University.

Bunk will join teammate Taybreanna Couch at Morehead State and will have three years of eligibility remaining.  In 2012-13 she averaged 11.7 points per game, 4.5 assists, and 3.7 rebounds and was named First Team All-MFC.

"Morehead State will be a great fit for Mo," said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins.  "I know they were really looking for a point guard that can attack and score.  She will be able to do that at the Ohio Valley Conference level, and we can't wait to watch her success.  She is excited to have three years at Morehead and I know she will do well academically there too."

Morehead State Head Coach Tom Hodges also expressed his excitement at signing a player the caliber of Bunk.

"We are very excited about Monique and the impact she will bring to our team and university," Hodges said.  "Mo is a young lady that will bring immediate experience to the point guard position. She has an ability to score the ball that we didn't see all spring on the recruiting trail."

Bunk will look to make an immediate impact for an Eagles team that finished last season 9-21 overall and 5-11 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

"I watched her score 37 points against Gulf Coast State College in the state playoffs, and Gulf Coast ended up finishing second in the nation," Hodges added.  "Having already signed Tay Couch, we felt very fortunate to sign Mo out of Coach Stebbins' program. We know we are getting another young lady who is ready to step up in a big way for Morehead State."

Sophomore Lonna Turner made her decision official on Tuesday when she signed with Augusta State University, a NCAA Division II school in Augusta, GA.  The Jaguars are led by Head Coach Nate Teymer and finished the 2012-13 season 21-6 overall and 14-5 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Turner averaged 5.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in 25 games played as a sophomore before an injury cut her season short.  In 2011-12 she averaged 3.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 30 contests.

"I am excited for Lonna to be heading to the prestigious Peach Belt Conference," said Stebbins.  "She is a great addition to an already solid team.  Her length and athleticism will really benefit Augusta State and I am so proud of this Gainesville product!  I know Lonna is excited to graduate and continue the success she has had here in the classroom and on the floor at ASU."
