FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate to Speak at SF Commencement
April 30, 2013
Santa Fe College will hold spring commencement in the Northwest Campus gymnasium, 7 p.m. Friday. Approximately 1,300 students have applied to graduate. Of that number over 700 will walk in the ceremony.
Craig Fugate, Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and former SF student, will be the guest speaker. Fugate began his emergency management career as a volunteer firefighter, paramedic and Lieutenant with Alachua County Fire Rescue. In May 2009, President Barack Obama appointed Fugate Administrator of FEMA.
Bagpiper Benjamin A Pugh will perform, along with a Gainesville Brass Quintet performance of "Pomp and Circumstance No. 1" by the late Edward Elgar. The Santa Fe Singers, under the direction of Lynn Sandefur, will convey a musical interlude.
Attendees are advised to:
- Arrive early. Seating is limited.
- Refrain from bringing large bags, packages, and items. Santa Fe College reserves the right to inspect all bags and packages entering the building and refuse any item deemed dangerous or obtrusive.
- Be patient. Due to the additional time it takes to inspect bags at the door, you may experience a slight delay entering the building.
In addition to the main commencement ceremony, 156 nursing students will attend the Nurses Pinning Ceremony Thursday at 5 p.m. in the gymnasium and Health Sciences graduates will walk in the Health Sciences Graduation at 3 p.m. in the gymnasium.
