SF FASTPITCH

Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore pitcher/first baseman Karla Claudio (Puerto Rico) is currently in the midst of one of the statistically greatest seasons in Saints fastpitch history, and she is doing it with her bat and her arm.

On April 18 against Daytona State College, Claudio hit two homeruns, giving her 23 for her career, eclipsing Gia Tomossone's 22.  In addition to the homerun record, she has the new base on balls record.  Through April 18 Claudio has 62 career walks, putting her 5 ahead of Erika Garcia's 57, set in 2008-09.

She is currently 14 in career hits (118), tied for 9 in doubles (22), 15 in runs scored (72), and 5 in career batting average (.423).

In the circle Claudio has piled up 203 strikeouts this season alone and 316 for her career, putting her in third place behind Colena Lazar (597) and SF Athletics Hall of Famer Rachel Foster (423).  Her 26 wins have her tied for 12 in Santa Fe history.

TV20 WCJB in Gainesville is airing a special piece on Claudio set to air during the 6:00 PM news on Tuesday, April 23.  The video will be available on www.wcjb.com on Wednesday, April 24.
