SF MEN'S BASKETBALL
Gainesville, FL – NJCAA First Team All-American Bobby Hunter made it official on Wednesday, April 17 and signed with Illinois State University, a NCAA Division I program located in Normal, IL.
"Bobby will be a great addition to the Illinois State program next year," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "He has a chance to be a major contributor for the Redbirds, and help them battle for a MVC Championship. Coach Muller will love Bobby's competitiveness, leadership skills, and personality. We appreciate all of his contributions to the Saints this year, and look forward to watching him at Illinois State."
Hunter, a transfer from Oregon Tech, finished his sophomore season second in the nation in scoring, putting up 25.2 points per game in 32 games played. He played at an even higher level when facing the eventual National Champions College of Central Florida, scoring 37, 30 and 28 points in the team's three meetings.
His 275 free throws made and 354 free throws attempted set a new FCSAA State of Florida record, crushing the former records of 230 made and 282 attempted set by two different players.
Hunter shot 47.3% from the field, 77.7% from the free throw line, and 37% from the three point line. He averaged 4.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game and had 76 steals.
The Redbirds are led by Head Coach Dan Muller and finished the 2012-13 season 18-15 overall and 8-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Coach Muller said he is excited to bring in a player of Hunter's caliber to the Redbirds program.
"Bobby is a strong, athletic and explosive guard," Muller said. "He has the ability to attack off of the bounce, as well as score from the perimeter. He does a great job of putting pressure on the defense, which creates scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates."
