Fastpitch Sweeps Central Florida 5-4 and 4-0, Clinch MFC Championship

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints swept the Central Florida Patriots on Tuesday afternoon in Ocala, clinching the Mid-Florida Conference championship and a #1 seed at the FCSAA State Tournament May 3-5 in Pensacola. The title is the eighth in the last nine years for SF.
The Saints (33-14, 18-4 MFC) slipped by the Patriots 5-4 in the first game with Karla Claudio picking up the win in the circle. Amber Maxey shut out CF (32-21, 12-12 MFC) in game two 4-0 and also helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Santa Fe pounded out 17 hits on the day, led by a 3-for-6, two double, two RBI performance from Yanira Sanchez. Claudio finished the day 3-for-8 with two doubles and a RBI, and Rachel Hoeft was 3-for-7 with a double and two RBI.
The Saints will finish out the MFC portion of their schedule on Thursday, April 18 in Gainesville at 2:30 PM.
SF rounds out the regular season with double headers against Hillsborough CC in Tampa on April 25 and against Chipola College in Gainesville on April 27.
