Fifth Annual Jazz Up Spring April 18

The SF Rhythm & Blues Band presents the fifth annual Jazz Up Spring at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18. The concert will feature the band performing Motown and older rhythm and blues tunes in a Blues Brothers setting. Lead singer Kelli McGill will be paying homage to the great R&B stars like Aretha Franklin as she sings "Respect," Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll" and Steve Winwood's "Gimmie Some Lovin'."

The festivities will continue with the SF Jazz Combo as they will play Charlie Parker's "Groovin' High" and Horace Silver's "The Preacher" and "Sister Sadie." Cortney Powers will make a guest appearance singing Jimmy Heath's "When Sunny Gets Blue."

Next, the Swing Choir will sing Jule Styne's "Just in Time," "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and more of the great jazz standards.

Finally, the SF Big Band will perform Billy Strayhorn's "Take the 'A' Train," Fats Waller's "Jitterbug Waltz" and Gordon Goodwin's "High Maintenance." The Big Band's featured vocalist Lauren Tanner will sing "No More Blues."

The concert will also feature a silent auction of autographed basketballs, weekend getaways and massage and gift baskets to help raise funds for the jazz program and Big Band.

Tickets are $15 for orchestra seating or $12 for balcony seating. All tickets are $9 for seniors, children 12 and under, and UF students with valid ID. SF students, faculty and staff are free with valid I.D. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Santa Fe Box Office, 352-395-4181.
