Gainesville, FL – St. John's River State College rallied from two runs down to escape with a win against Santa Fe Wednesday afternoon in Palatka, upending the Saints 3-2. The loss ends an eight game win streak for SF.
The Saints (23-11, 8-5 MFC) jumped ahead early on a RBI double by Connor Castellano to take a 2-0 lead. Dylan Barrow started on the hill for SF and controlled the action until running into trouble in the seventh. The Saints gave up three runs in the inning on four walks, a hit by pitch and an error on a double play attempt. Derek Vail pitched 1.2 innings in relief, allowing a hit and two walks.
Santa Fe threatened in the ninth, putting runners on second and third with one out but couldn't get the tying run across.
The Vikings are currently in first place in the Mid-Florida Conference and currently hold a two game lead over Santa Fe.
SJRSC and SF continue their three game series on Friday in Gainesville at 3:00 PM.
