Baseball Wins Seventh Straight, Drops FSC-J 9-7 in Extras

Gainesville, FL – It took 11 innings but the Santa Fe Saints left Jacksonville with their seventh straight win, defeating the Florida State College-Jacksonville Blue Wave 9-7 in extra frames.  Colby Lusignan was the hero, plating two runs in the eleventh with a two out RBI single.  He has 20 RBI over his last nine games and over a .500 batting average during the same stretch

Derek Vail picked up his fourth win on the season with five shutout innings in relief, scattering three hits with three strikeouts.  He has now pitched 16.2 straight innings in Mid-Florida Conference play without allowing an earned run.  JT Simpson started on the mound and tossed three innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs.  Clayton Wagner pitched innings four, five and six, surrendering two runs before giving way to Vail.

Santa Fe fell behind 5-0 but rallied for seven runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two RBI double from Caleb Denmark and RBI singles by Jamal Martin and Jarred Mederos.  Mederos has now hit safely in 15 straight games.

FSC-J tied the score at seven to send the game to extras where Lusignan came through in the 11 to keep the Santa Fe win streak intact.

Mederos finished the game 2-for-5 with a RBi and two runs scored, Denmark was 3-for-6 with a double and two RBI, and Josh Stewart was 2-for-3 with a run and two sacrifice bunts.

The Saints and Blue Wave finish their three game series on Monday in Gainesville at 3:00 PM.
