SF Hosts Mayoral Candidates' Forum March 13

March 11, 2013

All six candidates for Mayor of the City of Gainesville will participate in a Candidates' Forum beginning at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the SF CIED (Center for Innovation and Economic Development) at the college's Blount Center.

The public is welcome as well as students, faculty and staff.

The six candidates include Ed Braddy, Scherwin Henry, Peter Lars Johnson, Craig Lowe, Donald Shepherd and Mark Venzke.

Candidates will give opening remarks and then respond to questions from the audience and the SF moderator. The event is expected to last one hour.

The event is sponsored by the Democracy Commitment @ SF, which is part of a nationwide initiative to promote civic engagement and education in democracy among community college students. Last month, the Democracy Commitment sponsored a panel discussion on Gainesville's SuperFund Cleanup Site. Next month, the Democracy Commitment is planning a discussion of Congressional partisanship issues.

More than 1,000 students take classes leading to the Associate's degree at the SF Blount Center in downtown Gainesville. There are two general classroom buildings as well as the CIED, which provides incubator programs and services for startup companies and entrepreneurs.
