Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (11-10) won an extra inning barn burner in game one of a double header Saturday afternoon 2-1 but the Hillsborough CC Hawks bounced back in a big way in game two for a 5-1 win.

Geena Capitini put the Saints on the board first, knocking in a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.  HCC tied the game in the fourth and the bats went cold from there for both teams until the eighth.

Hillsborough failed to score in the top of the eighth despite starting the inning with a runner at second due to the international tie breaker. The Saints took advantage in the bottom of the inning to walk off with the win. Galis Lozada executed a sacrifice bunt to move Erin Marsh to third base and Karla Claudio followed with an infield ground ball allowing March to score from third.

Claudio took the game one win, pitching all eight innings, striking out 14 in the process.

Game two was all Hillsborough as the Hawks scored three runs in the first on a two out double, clearing the bases.  They added one in the fourth and one in the seventh.

Rachel Brown provided the lone bright spot for Santa Fe when she homered in the bottom of the seventh, the first of her young collegiate career.

Ashley Chapman started in the circle and took the loss.

The Saints open Mid-Florida Conference play on Tuesday, March 12 at Florida State College-Jacksonville.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
