SF MEN'S BASKETBALL

Marianna, FL – The Santa Fe Saints hung around with Brevard College on Thursday evening at the FCSAA State Tournament but a second half push by the Titans gave them a 21 point victory, 69-48.  The loss ends the Saints season.  Brevard moves on the FCSAA Final Four and will play Chipola College on Friday.

Brevard controlled the early part of the game but the Saints kept it close cutting the lead to three with just 2.7 seconds remaining.  On the ensuing inbounds pass a foul was called on Santa Fe on a shot attempt from half court.  The Titans made all three free throws and took a 35-29 lead into the break.

In the second period SF trimmed the lead to just two but back to back three pointers by Brevard's Jordan Smith gave the Titans a 48-40 lead, one they would not look back on.

Gary Gaskins led the push with 20 points on 10-of-11 shooting and helped BCC pull away for the 21 point win.  The Saints struggled to score in the second period and shot just 6-for-30.

The nation's leading scorer Bobby Hunter led Santa Fe with 14 points and Roody St. Germain had 12.

"Brevard is a very good team and we wish them luck tomorrow," said SF Coach Chris Mowry.  "The season didn't end how we wanted  it to but overall we had a nice year with some good wins over some quality teams.  We just couldn't score in the second half and that makes it tough to win."
