Seminole State Prevails Over Santa Fe in Slugfest, 13-10

March 6, 2013

SF BASEBALL - 3/6/2013

Gainesville, FL – The four time defending Mid-Florida Conference champion Saints opened MFC play on Wednesday against Seminole State College (17-6, 1-0 MFC) and came out on the short end of an offensive minded game 13-10.  JT Simpson started on the hill and was roughed up in 3.2 innings of work, dropping him to 2-2.  Josh Larson pitched 4.2 inning of relief and didn't have much better luck, allowing six runs on nine hits against a powerful Raiders offense.

Santa Fe (14-7, 0-1 MFC) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after two innings but it quickly evaporated in the third when Seminole evened things up with a seven run inning.  The Saints retook the lead in the fourth with one run but the Raiders again answered, putting up two in the top of the fifth for a 9-8 lead.

A run in the sixth for SSC made it 10-8 but not to be out done, SF mounted a rally of their own, plating two to tie the game at 10-10.

In the eighth Seminole loaded the bases with no outs and just when it appeared Santa Fe would get out of it unscathed after a double play, the Raiders delivered a two out, two run RBI single to go ahead 12-10.  They added an insurance run in the top of the ninth and shut out the Saints in the ninth to preserve their win.

Seminole has now won 11 games in a row.

Andrew Fears led the Santa Fe offense, going 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored, Colby Lusignan was 2-for-5 with two RBI and Jonathan Camp finished 2-for-4.

The Saints and Raiders meet again on Friday, March 8 at 3:00 PM in Sanford and once more Saturday at 1:00 PM in Gainesville to wrap up their three game series.
