SF MEN'S BASKETBALL

Gainesville, FL – Bobby Hunter led an inspired Santa Fe effort Tuesday night, scoring 25 points in a 68-58 win over Florida State College-Jacksonville in the Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship.  The victory clinches a spot in the FCSAA State Tournament for SF as the MFC #2 seed and gives them 20 wins on the season.  College of Central Florida will represent the conference as the #1 seed.

"I'm very happy for our guys and proud of the way we played tonight," said SF Coach Chris Mowry.  "This was a hard fought game by both teams.  FSC-J gave us everything we could handle.  Playing a team for the fourth time in 30 days means nothing is going to be a secret.  We both know what the other was going to do."

The Blue Wave took control in the early going and led until a late run by Santa Fe put the Saints up 28-21 at the break.

SF (20-11, 5-4 MFC) controlled the action in the second half and built a double digit lead just seconds into the second half.  The Blue Wave tried to get back in it but the Saints answered every time, never allowing FSC-J to get within striking distance.  Santa Fe made their free throws down the stretch to ice the win.

Hunter led all scorers with his 25 points despite shooting just 3-for-14 from the field. He was 18-for-20 from the free throw line and added five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 40 minutes of action.  Jordan Banks scored 13 points and Andrea Robinson had 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Guards Matt Jackson and Roody Saint Germain added nine each.

"Andrea and Jordan were huge tonight," said Mowry.  "They were physical inside and did a nice job on second opportunities.  Matt did a super job in his first start of the season.  He handled the ball when we needed him to and knocked down some key shots.

The Saints will play Brevard College in the first round of the State Tournament on March 7 at 8:00 PM CST at Chipola College in Marianna, FL.  Every game of the tournament can be seen live on www.psblive.com.

"Brevard is an extremely talented team," said Mowry.  "We will let the guys celebrate a little tonight and then we will get back after it tomorrow preparing for a very good team March 7."
