Santa Fe and St. Petersburg Split Double Header

Gainesville, FL – Karla Claudio tossed another gem on Friday afternoon but came out on the short end of a 3-2 loss to St. Petersburg College.  The Saints rallied in game two for 2-1 win to earn a split with Ashley Chapman picking up the win in the circle.  SF moves to 8-6 on the season and SPC is 12-11.

Claudio helped her own cause in game one with a RBI single in the first inning to put Santa Fe ahead 1-0.  In the top of the second the Titans answered with a run after a walk and a batter was hit by a pitch.

Neither team scratched out a run through the next five innings and the game with to an extra frame.  With the international tie breaker in effect, St. Pete scored two runs in the eighth, the first on an error and the second on a RBI double.

The Saints scored one in the bottom of the inning but the rally was cut short.

Erin Marsh finished game one 3-for-3 and Aileen Fiallo was 2-for-3.

Both offenses struggled in game two and the Saints went into the bottom of the sixth trailing 1-0.  With one out in the inning Karla Claudio drew a 3-2 walk and Megan McDonald and Genna Capitini followed with base hits to load the bases.  Rachel Hoeft followed and during her at bat Claudio came home for the tying run on a wild pitch.  Hoeft then came through with a hard hit ground ball that was booted by the shortstop, allowing the go ahead run to score.

Ashley Chapman finished off the comeback win by shutting down the Titans in the top of the seventh to secure the 2-1 win.

The Saints next double header is at home on Sunday, February 24 at 1:00 PM.
