SF MEN'S BASKETBALL - 2/9/2013

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints pulled out a big Mid-Florida Conference win Saturday afternoon against Daytona State College, defeating the Falcons 69-62 at the SF Gym. The nation's leading scorer Bobby Hunter again led the way, pouring in 24 points. The win moves Coach Chris Mowry one win away from 200 in his career.

The Saints (15-12, 3-3- MFC) led early on, taking as much as a 14 point lead in the first half. Daytona rallied over the final five minutes and scored the last eight points of the period to cut the margin to 35-32.

"We took a few too many quick shots and gave them some easy scoring opportunities late," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We did a little better for most of the second half and got a good win."

Santa Fe used a good start to the second to build the lead back to double digits. Hunter paced the rally scoring six points in the first three minutes.

SF continued to apply pressure and pushed the margin out to 58-41 with 6:15 to go on a second chance layup by Hunter. Daytona chipped away over the next five minutes and trimmed the lead to 63-57, but it was too little too late as the Saints held on for the MFC victory.

Santa Fe won despite shooting just 36% from the field. The major difference in the game came at the free throw line where the Saints outscored the Falcons 31-6

Roody Saint-Germain joined Hunter in double figures with 12 points and eight rebounds, Deonte Moore had eight points and Chad Milliken scored nine and Matt Jackson had six.

"Roody and Matt did a real nice job for us off the bench," said Mowry. "They handled the ball well and helped us keep up the tempo."

The Saints next game is on February 16 at 4:00 PM against rivals College of Central Florida
