The Santa Fe College Big Band would like to announce the 5th Annual Valentine's Day Swing Dance on Thursday, Feb. 14 in the Fine Arts Hall lobby. The event will feature swing dance lessons by instructors and music from the band. Featured vocalists are Cortney Powers, Lauren Tanner and Paula Ursu, all from Lynn Sandefur's studio, and Dr. Russell Robinson from the UF School of Music will make a special guest appearance.
The lessons will begin at 6:15 p.m. and the band will play two sets of big band swing music starting at 7:30 p.m., including tunes like "In the Mood," "Bandstand Boogie," "Jumpin' at the Woodside," "New York, New York," "Take the 'A' Train," "April in Paris," "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" and "Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)."
Tickets are $10. Hors d'oeuvres will be served.
The Big Band has also been invited to perform in the 47th Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland on July 14 and 15. Musicians United, which is hosting the dance, will be running fundraisers throughout the night to provide money for the band's trip. Donations are welcomed.
