The collection consists of photographs, artwork, news articles, buttons and cards, and more than 2,000 artifacts covering the extraction of natives from the western shores of Africa to the first chattel slave arriving in Jamestown Virginia in 1619. The exhibit includes timelines of such events as voyages through the middle passage, the Civil War, the Reconstruction Period, the Jim Crow era and the Civil Rights Era of the 1960's. Attendees can learn about military groups like the Buffalo Soldiers, the Tuskegee Airmen, The Triple, The Montford Point Marines and the Golden Thirteen of the Navy.
