Gainesville, FL – The nation's leading scorer Bobby Hunter had his highest scoring game of the season on Monday evening, netting 40 to lead the Saints past TAAG Academy 85-75. The win moves Santa Fe to 13-11 on the season.
"I'm glad we got a win tonight," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We didn't shot the ball well from outside but got to the free throw line and were aggressive enough going to the hoop to get a win."
SF started slow and trailed by as many as eight in the first half. A late run including a 12-4 run to end the half brought the Saints all the way back and made the score 38-38 at the break.
"TAAG outworked us for the first 15 minutes or so of the first half," said Mowry. "They have some good players and it took us until the last couple minutes to get things together."
Hunter and Deonte Moore took over in the second half combining for 38 of Santa Fe's 47 points. TAAG kept the game close but Santa Fe turned a one point lead at the 3:38 mark into a 10 point win.
Santa Fe was 25-for-50 from the field and 33-for-44 from the free throw line. Hunter led all scorers with his 40, Moore had 21 and six rebounds, Andrea Robinson scored nine to go with five rebounds and Takija Knight had nine points and eight boards.
The Saints head out on the road Saturday, February 2 in a crucial Mid-Florida Conference game against the College of Central Florida at 7:30 PM in Ocala.
