SF BASKETBALL - 1/23/2013

Gainesville, FL – When the Santa Fe Saints women's basketball team (14-8, 2-2 MFC) takes the court at 6:00 PM tonight against Florida State College-Jacksonville, Paulina Zaveckaite will start the game as the nation's leading rebounder, by a wide margin.  At 8:00 PM the men's basketball team (11-10, 0-1 MFC) battles FSC-J and the nation's leading scorer Bobby Hunter (Reno, NV) looks to extend his streak of 20 point games to nine in a row.

Zaveckaite, a 6'2 sophomore from Lithuania, has 346 rebounds this season for an average of 15.7 per game.  The next closest player in the country has 275 rebounds.  Her legend grew even further on January 9 when she set the NJCAA Division I record with 32 rebounds in a single game against Daytona State College, smashing the old record of 27 set over 20 years ago.  Zaveckaite is also on pace to pass the Santa Fe single season record of 431 set by Laura Johnson in 1981-82.

Hunter enters the game with a 24.8 points per game average, a full point and a half better than the next closest player.  He is coming off a 37 point game against NJCAA #21 College of Central Florida, his highest point total of the season and seventh 30 plus point game.  His 520 total points is 102 more than the next closest player, Chris Jones of Northwest Florida State College.
