Alternative Spring Break 2013 Opportunity in Selma, Ala.

On March 7, 1965, more than 600 people marching in protest against voting rights inequality were assaulted with nightsticks and tear gas by state and local police after crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala. "Bloody Sunday," as it would come to be known, marked the peak of the American civil rights movement. Travel to Selma to participate in the Bridge Crossing Jubilee, which commemorates "Bloody Sunday" and celebrates the voting rights movement and the passing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and a week of service within the Selma, Ala., community during Alternative Spring Break, March 2-9.
