SF Athletics Announces 2013 Hall of Fame Class; Enshrinement Ceremony March 2

Gainesville, FL – Athletics Director Jim Keites and the Santa Fe Athletics Department are proud to announce the 2013 inductees into the Athletics Hall of Fame. Five individuals and one team were voted in by the selection committee with at least 51% of the vote. The department will host an event to honor the 2013 class on March 2, 2013 starting at 11:00 AM including enshrinement ceremony and lunch at the baseball and softball complex. The baseball team hosts East Georgia State in a double header starting at noon.
The 2013 Hall of Fame Class:
Walter Spurlin – Men's Basketball – 1980-82: Walter is the all-time leading rebounder at Santa Fe with 514, 9 in points scored with 932 and 13 in blocked shots with 58. In 1982 Walter received the Santa Fe All-Sports Male Player of the Year. He went on to a very successful career at Columbus State University in Columbus, GA.
Juan Wiley – Men's Basketball – 1995-97: Juan ranked #3 all-time in points scored at SF with 1,080, #3 in rebounds with 505 and 15 in steals with 101. He was twice named to the FCSAA All-State Team in both 1995-96 and 1996-97. He went on to star at the University of South Carolina-Aiken where he finished sixth all time in scoring in just two seasons with 1,106 points. He was First Team Peach Belt Conference both seasons, a two time Peach Belt Player of the Week, 1 Team Daktronics All-region in 1998-99 and 2nd team NABC All-District in 1998-99.
Sherquita Bostick – Fastpitch Softball – 2005-2007: Sherquita finished her career at Santa Fe as one of the most decorated athletes in school history. In 2007 following her record setting sophomore season she was named an NJCAA All-American and the Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year. She hit an astounding .466 for her career at SF with 21 homeruns (2nd all time), 21 doubles (11 all time), 12 triples (4 all time), 66 stolen bases (8 all time), 156 hits (3 all time), 114 runs scored (2nd all time) and 107 RBI (1 all time). She transferred to Georgia College and State where she led the team in batting average in 2008 (.379) and 2009 (.361) and hit 20 homeruns, giving her 41 for her collegiate career. She was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009 and a NFCA All-American in 2008 and a Daktronics All-American in 2009.
Lou Palomba – Baseball – 1984-85: Lou was a key piece to the first great Santa Fe baseball team, manning first base for the 1985 State Champion and JUCO World Series team. He is 7 all-time in batting average at .407, hit 19 homeruns, good enough for second all-time behind 2012 Hall of Famer Matt Armstrong, is 7 in RBI with 84, second in runs scored with 98 and first in walks with 98. In 1985 he was named First Team All Mid-Florida Conference, Southwest All-District Team and to the JUCO World Series All-Tournament Team. He continued his career at the University of Florida.
Jack Hall – Women's Tennis Coach – 1981-1993: Coach Hall recorded a 216-86 overall record as the head coach of the Santa Fe women's tennis team before the program was dropped in 1992. His teams won the State Championship in 1989, 1990 and 1991 and he was the Region Coach of the Year four times. The 1991 team had the program's highest ever national finish, coming in fourth. Before coaching at Santa Fe, Coach Hall was the head track and field coach and assistant football coach at the Citadel (1960-65), assistant football coach at Duke University (1966-1968), assistant football coach at the University of Tennessee (1969), assistant football coach at the University of Florida (1970-78) and an assistant coach with the New York Jets (1979-80). In 2007 he was inducted into the Citadel Athletics Hall of Fame.
1981-82 Women's Basketball team: The 1981-82 Saints finished with a record of 27-5, won the team's first State championship, the Mid-Florida Conference Championship, Region VIII Championship, finished first in the nation in scoring average (83.6 ppg) and finished ninth at the national tournament. 2012 Hall of Fame inductees Laura Johnson and Head Coach Paula Edney were a part of the 1981-82 team.
