Gainesville, FL – A stingy Santa Fe defense held The Rock School to just 12 second half points on Wednesday night, stretching an 18 point halftime lead to a 50 point victory. Four Saints scored in double figures including Rock graduate Paulina Zaveckaite who finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
The FCSAA #8 Saints (9-5) opened the second period on a 12-0 run to push the lead out to 57-27 five minutes in. The Rock hung around, playing SF even over the next four minutes. Santa Fe stepped up over the final 11 minutes, closing the game 28-8 for the 89-39 victory.
"I was very happy with our defensive effort in the second half," said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins. "We closed out on the ball, helped when we needed to and held them to just one shot on most possessions."
The Saints outrebounded the Lions 59-27 and had a season high 28 assists on 34 made baskets.
"I was proud of the way we shared the ball tonight and made the extra pass," said Stebbins. "Our post players did a nice job rebounding and playing defense against a talented front court."
Tiara Thompson led all scorers with 23 points and seven rebounds, Lonna turner tunred in a nice performance with 12 points and seven rebounds, Jaquasha Sesler had 10 points and five rebounds and Miracle Watts scored nine. Monique Bunk led the team with seven assists.
Santa Fe continues at home on Friday against Webber International JV at 5:00 PM.
