Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore infielder/pitcher Josh Stewart made his commitment to Rollins College official this week when he signed his letter of intent with the NCAA Division II Tars.
"We are very excited for Josh and his opportunity to play for Rollins College," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs. "They are a prestigious academic institution where he will be challenged both on and off the field. We look forward to having him around this spring and wish him the best of luck next season."
Stewart, a 4.0 student at Santa Fe, attended PK Yonge High School in Gainesville before signing with the Saints in 2011. As a freshman with SF, Stewart appeared in 12 games out of the bullpen, accumulating a 2.42 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.
This fall he led the team in batting average at .410 with three doubles and a triple. Coach Wiggs expects him to make an impact with the bat and his arm in the spring.
"After such a productive fall, Josh has the inside track on the starting second base position this spring," said Wiggs. "He will also be expected to provide some big, late innings out of the bullpen for us again."
Stewart joins a Rollins team that finished the 2012 season 28-22 overall and 8-15 in the Sunshine State Conference under Head Coach Jon Sjogren.
