SF FASTPITCH – 11/20/2012

Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe fastpitch star Karla Claudio made it official this week, signing her letter of intent with the University of South Florida for the 2012-13 season. USF is coming off the best season in school history that saw them knock off the University of Florida in route to their first ever Women's College World Series berth.

"This is an exciting time for Karla, and we are happy for her that she has decided to accept USF's offer," said SF Coach Chris Ahern. "She will be a good fit for them, as they will for her."

Claudio dominated as a freshman in 2012, hitting .421 with 11 doubles, 11 homeruns, 30 RBI and 31 runs scored. She also led the Saints in innings pitched, tossing 137.1 frames, finishing with a 10-7 record, a 2.24 ERA and 113 strikeouts.

The Bulls completed a dream season in 2012 under Coach Ken Eriksen with a 50-14 overall record and a 17-5 mark in the Big East, capping it off with a trip to Oklahoma City for the College World Series.

"The combination of her abilities and her passion for the game will help her at the next level," said Ahern. "Playing for Coach Eriksen will be a wonderful experience for Karla, he is a top notch Coach. This is as exciting for us here at Santa Fe, knowing Karla will be in a top institution, with a World Series team, coached by Team USA's Head Coach. It has to be a player's dream!"
