SF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – 11/18/2012
Gainesville, FL – Paulina Zaveckaite led the FCSAA #7 Santa Fe Saints to their third win in the last three days, pouring in 22 points and grabbing 17 rebounds, one short of her season high, as SF ran past Webber International University JV 96-71.
"It was nice to win game three of a three day stretch," said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins. "We didn't play a perfect game, but did enough good things to get the win."
The Saints started hot, jumping out to a 15-0 lead in the early going. Webber fought back and closed the gap to 31-27 with four minutes to go thanks in part to three three pointers from Victoria Bagget. SF scored the next five points to push the margin back to double digits, but again the Warriors clawed back, cutting the lead to just 41-35 at the half time break.
"Webber presented a mismatch for us when they sent out five guards to start the game," said Stebbins. "We had to adjust defensively and play the game at our tempo."
Santa Fe came out firing in the second period, using a 10-1 run, capped by a Shanice Clark layup to go up 51-36. The game would get no closer as the Saints steadily pulled away down the stretch, building as much as a 28 point lead.
SF won going away despite 32 turnovers and 26 personal fouls. The Saints outrebounded the Warriors 62-29
Joining Zaveckaite in double figures were Tiara Thompson with 14, Jaquasha Sesler 12, Kaitlynn Pacholke 10 and seven assists and Taybreanna Couch 10. Lydia Cuff had 11 rebounds.
The Saints will take a few days off for Thanksgiving before returning to the court on Friday, November 23 against NJCAA #1 Northwest Florida State College in Niceville at 5:30 PM CST. On Saturday, November 24 SF battles Chipola College in Niceville at 1:30 PM CST.
