"A Children's Holiday at Santa Fe" Kicks Off Winter Fun Events Dec. 1
November 14, 2012
"A Children's Holiday at Santa Fe" is the season opener for local winter festivities. It's at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 in the SF Fine Arts Hall, Northwest Campus, 3000 NW 83rd St., Gainesville.
First presented a year ago, the Children's Holiday captured the hearts and minds of kids and their families. The familiar dance music and well known songs and characters evoke memories of past holidays, setting a joyful tone for those yet to come.
The children's show involves the significant talents of many college departments. Dance Theatre Santa Fe performs excerpts from Tchaikovsky's ballet "The Nutcracker." The SF Singers contribute multicultural songs of the season. Theatre Santa Fe brings Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus from the North Pole along with a bevy of elves to shake things up with their hip-hop moves.
The performance will be emceed by Corrie Lovette, anchor of TV-20's Morning Edition. Lovette, incidentally, is also a dancer trained in ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop.
The audience gets to participate in the show, and when it's over there are holiday crafts to do. The SF Gallereans, a student fine arts group, will show kids how to make their own gift bags, do magic color scratch dreidels, and other fun crafts.
Cookies and lemonade for everyone? You bet! What better way is there to kick off the holiday season?
