SF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Marianna, FL – The Santa Fe Saints came up just short for the second day in a row at the Girls' Basketball Report Classic, falling to the hometown Chipola Indians 62-58 in a hard fought neck and neck battle.

SF trailed 25-22 at the half after making 10-of-32 shots without a single free throw attempt.

"I was disappointed with how we played in the first half offensively," said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. "We held them to 25 points but never got into a rhythm of our own. But if our girls can learn from this we will get better in the long run."

Both teams turned up the intensity in the second period and it was back and forth all the way to the end. Santa Fe kept it within two until the final seconds when Chipola made two free throws for the final margin.

The Saints outrebounded the Indians 50-30, but the difference in the game came from the charity stripe where Chipola was 10-of-14 and SF just 5-of-12. Both teams shot 35% from the field.

"I was proud of how well Lydia [Cuff] and the rest of our post players played tonight," said Stebbins. "We really outworked them on the glass all game."

Taybreanna Couch led the Saints with 13 points, Lydia Cuff chipped in eight points, Shanice Clark had seven and Paulina Zaveckaite led the team in rebounding with 11.

Santa Fe finishes up the Girls' Basketball Report Classic against the #1 team in the state and the nation, Northwest Florida State College at 11:00 AM CST on Saturday, November 10.
