SF BASEBALL – 9/11/2012

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints open their 2012 fall scrimmage season on Wednesday, September 12 at 3:00 PM at home against conference rivals St. John's River State College, and continue through the weekend with a double header on Saturday against All American Prospects at 12:00 PM.

"Everybody that is healthy will see action on Wednesday and this weekend to get an early look at what we have," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs

SF will play nine dates during the fall, all of them at home. Six of the contests will come against travel ball teams from the state of Florida and the other three are against St. John's (twice) and Lafleche College.

The Saints return nine players from last year's Mid-Florida Conference championship squad: infielder/pitcher Josh Stewart; catcher AJ Mazzurco; pitcher JT Simpson; catcher Blake Berger; pitcher Josh Larson; infielder/pitcher Caleb Denmark; pitcher Dylan Barrow; pitcher Ryan Caporice and first baseman Graham Cason.

"We are all excited to get started but it is real early," said Wiggs. "Our fall games will give us a chance to evaluate and teach as we go. The biggest thing is for us to learn from our mistakes and continue to get better as we head toward the spring. I believe we have a chance to have another good team by the time spring rolls around."

The fall season wraps up November 11 and the first regular season pitch is January 25, 2013 against Hillsborough CC.
