Most county candidates oppose road tax

Most candidates for the Alachua County Commission agreed on one issue at Tuesday's forum - they do not support a road tax that is slated to be put to a referendum vote this fall.
The three-quarter cent sales tax for road projects was a focus, along with other taxes and economic development, of a forum hosted by the Business Community Coalition at Santa Fe College.
Reasons for the opposition to the 15-year tax ranged from the referendum's narrow focus to the belief that the commission should use money from its existing revenue sources to repair roads.
