Cameron and 24 Other Saints Honored for Academic Success

Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore fastpitch player Stephanie Cameron was honored on Tuesday with the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement by the National Junior College Athletic Association for her efforts in the classroom.

Cameron carried a 3.85 cumulative GPA her two years at SF and was also named to the Florida College System Activities Association Academic Team and the Mid-Florida Conference Academic Team both years.

"Stephanie has represented her family, her team and the entire athletics department in exemplary fashion," said SF Athletics Director Jim Keites. "She is a very bright young woman with great work ethics and a very bright future."

Joining Cameron on the FCSAA All-State (3.3 GPA or higher) and Mid-Florida Conference (3.0 GPA or higher) academic teams: freshman Taybreanna Couch (women's basketball), freshman Oneisha Davis (women's basketball), freshman Tiara Thompson (women's basketball), freshman Graham Cason (baseball), sophomore Brad Markey (baseball), freshman Josh Stewart (baseball), sophomore Roger McLeod Jr. (men's basketball), sophomore Erika Garcia (softball), sophomore Ashley Holton (fastpitch), and sophomore Bianca Torres (fastpitch).

The Mid-Florida Conference Academic award winners: sophomore Cassandra Brown (women's basketball), freshman Blake Berger (baseball), sophomore Trevor Berry (baseball), sophomore Kyle Buchanan (baseball), freshman AJ Mazzurco (baseball), sophomore Lawrence Pardo (baseball), sophomore Graham Ramos (baseball), freshman Jacob Tillotson (baseball), freshman Jere Vucica (men's basketball), freshman Karla Claudio (fastpitch), sophomore Lindsey Fischer (fastpitch), freshman Shannen Marchu (fastpitch), freshman Layne McDermond (fastpitch), and sophomore Alaysia Miller (fastpitch).

"We had more than a few student-athletes dedicate themselves not just to their chosen sport, but to success in the classrooms as well," said Keites. "These individuals represent the true definition of "student-athlete"."
